Dear Shivani,
I was extremely glad to see the news item carrying your achievements in the front page of this website.
And moreover more glad that God is using you to help many other differently abled individuals.
You know even I love to help and I also have a heart for them, for I believe as we have gone through sufferings we are better able to handle and understand the problems of a differently abled indivdual.
I am very intersted in putting a smile on the less fortunate souls of India. I am working in Mphasis a software firm here in Mumbai. Weekends are off for me, I would like to devote my time by helping other disabled individuals.I use hearing aids but do hear fairly well. Speech is not a problem at all for me. have proper clarity of expression. My greatest strength lies in Teaching. I really loved that profession, but somehow that didnt materialise. I am a post graduate in commerce with specialisation in Management, and also have a diploma in Business Management. Can you let me know if there are any opprtunities for me to do my bit to the society here in Mumbai itself. I prefer to work with people in a group or an organisation  rather than a individual. Just check up whether you can guide me in any way to do something for our less fortunate friends.
Regards
Thomas

Dear Thomas,

First and foremost I will like to thank you for the post and your appreciation for our work. I am deeply honoured.

I am not sure if my suggestions would be of much use but would definately request other forum members to add to it and reinstate Amits signing line "TOGETHER WE ARE BETTER"

Well three things are very prominent to me in your post are - 1. Your being a PG in Commerce 2. Your interest in teaching 3. your wish to work with the underprivilaged.

Looking at the three it seems like you should perhaps get involved in doing some voluntary basic teaching for the underprivilaged. Now the issue will be to identify a suitable organization where you may be able to do so. These organisations may be for the disabled or even street children. This is something that you may need to look at near and around your neighbourhood.

Apart from this if you remember you had recommended to the forum that we have some general knowledge section which persons with disability can use to prepare themselves for interviews/entrance exams etc. Well just a thought but you may like to start compiling the questions in a document, that can be used while developing the final interface.

I am also aware of volunteering opportunities where books are to be read and recorded into a cassette for the benefit of persons with vision impairments. If you are interested in doing this you may contact the National Association for the Blind (NAB) in Mumbai.

Also since I am an accessibility freak, my personal favourite will be if you can add as a post or compile a list of more accessible entertainment areas in Mumbai. These may be places that you visit and feel are quite accessible from the point of view of a person with mobility impairments. Information like this can be very useful for us (people with mobility impairments).

Well Thomas,  these are just a few thoughts that have come to mind now. I appologise if they are not up to your expectations. But as I said, I request more members from the forum to add to these sugestions.

Warm Regards,

Shivani
