Dear Mr Shivprasad,
It is unfortunate that the paralympic sports in India have been mired in controversy lately. The re-trials have forced upon the para-athlete community due to non-inclusion of Mrs Suvarna Raj in the table tennis team. She I am told was in the family way, hence the non-inclusion. Her husband Pradeep Raj, while doing a very fine job in promoting the issue of para-sports has got involved in this unfortunate activity.
These are not really re-trials, as is made out to be. The Para Nationals had been planned from the 1 July as it is. Just to let the message go across the board that there was no unfair practice in selection and to keep the name of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), this step has been taken and the Nationals are now scheduled from 19 July to 23 July. The selection was done based on the performance of athletes in the 2009 World Games held in Bangalore in Nov 2009.
I am a neutral person not affiliated to PCI or any other body. But have been closely following the Para-sports movement in India, being disabled myself. My only concern is that Mr Pradeep Raj is using such community sites to further his personal agenda. An inquiry in to the allegations levelled by him was done by the Sports Ministry and found no wrong doings by the PCI. First a group of well meaning persons takes a major step to further the cause of disabled people in India, do all the hard work and create facilities, achieve results in the international arena. And then upstarts want to hop on to the gravy train and rock the applecart. Sad

he 2010 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XIX Commonwealth Games, were held in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October 2010. A total of 6,081 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations and dependencies competed in 21 sports and 272 events. It was the largest international multi-sport event to be staged in Delhi and India, eclipsing the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982.
