Paralympic Committee of India asks India’s top disabled swimmers to find individual sponsors if they
want to participate at the World Championships in Holland

When four disabled swimmers — Prasanta Karmakar, Sharath M Gayakwad, Raghavendra Anavekar and Vinodh Kumar Singh — from India qualified for the 2010 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championship, the country should have taken pride in their participation at the prestigious event that is to be held in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. However, that’s not the case. The Sports Ministry is not even releasing funds for these swimmers and there are about 13 days to go for the event. In an official letter sent to the participants, the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) has asked the swimmers to find individual sponsors to represent the country at the international
event. This clearly shows the indifference of the Indian authorities, who continue to have disregard for disabled athletes’ achievements.
For the first time ever, a contingent of four paralymic swimmers has made it to the world event that starts from August 15. But if these winners don’t manage to find a sponsor, they might have to skip the prestigious meet.
