Feb 24: Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU) National Centre for Disability Studies (NCDS) set up a cell to train mainstream teachers in disability issues. The national level mission mode projects to train thousands of in–service mainstream teachers towards inclusive education will train over 10, 000 teachers.
The Foundation Course on Education of Children with Disabilities (FCED) programme is a three months distance mode programme specially designed to cater to the needs of teachers in mainstream schools to facilitate learners with different disabilities and different degree of disability.
IGNOU also plans to offer the programme online and on demand mode to facilitate the needs of the learners across the country. The programme will provide hands on practical training and exposure apart from theoretical input through the specifically identified over 100 special study centres of IGNOU, recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India in each state.
