A Winner Never Quits is a 1986 TV movie based on the true story of baseball player Pete Gray, the only one-armed man ever to play major league baseball, hired in 1943 as a "freak attraction" and wartime morale-booster by the Memphis Chicks, Class-A minor league ball club.

Though a success, Gray maintains a tough, defensive veneer, which is softened only by the love of his life Annie and the adulation of baseball fan Nelson Gary Jr., who has also lost an arm (and who would, in real life, become a top minor-league ballplayer himself). With the war depleting big-league baseball's manpower in 1945, Pete Gray finally achieves his goal of entering the Majors when he is hired by the St. Louis Browns.

TWELVE AND HOLDING
The title of Michael Cuestra's second film (following his acclaimed debut L.I.E.) is one hundred percent literal: the three main characters of 12 and Holding are twelve years old. They are troubled, manipulative, industrious, acutely sensitive, and more grown-up than the flailing adults who are supposed to guide and protect them. In their possession, they have a loaded gun.
Jacob Carges (Conor Donovan), Leonard Fisher (Jesse Camacho), and Malee Chung (Zoe Weisenbaum) are a close-knit trio of friends/misfits. Jacob, a timid twin, is mistakenly considered disabled because of a red birth mark that covers half of his face. Good-natured Leonard is the fat friend; his entire family is obese and meals are regular gluttonous feasts. Malee, the Chinese American daughter of divorced parents, is the overachiever, a precocious girl who wears glasses and plays the flute. The group accepts their designation as outcasts in an orderly social world--until a tragic event takes place in their own backyard.

Carrie Buck (1906–1983) was a plaintiff in the United States Supreme Court case Buck v. Bell 274 U.S. 200 (1927), and was ordered to undergo compulsory sterilization for purportedly being "feeble-minded" as part of the state of Virginia's eugenics program while a patient at Virginia State Colony for Epileptics and Feebleminded. Carrie Buck was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, to Emma Buck. After her birth, Carrie was placed with foster parents, John and Alice Dobbs. She attended public school until the sixth grade and then continued to live with the Dobbs, helping out with chores around the house.

Raman Thediya Seethai (Tamil: , The Seethai Raman Searched) is a drama Tamil film starring Cheran, Pasupathy, Nithin Sathya in the lead male roles whilst Vimala Raman, Remya Nabeeshan, Navya Nair, Gajala and Karthika play parallel female roles. It is directed by Jeganji.

The first few scenes themselves set the tone; first, a hesitant and bashful Venugopal (Cheran) trying desperately to carry on an interesting conversation with a prospective bride Ranjitha (Vimala Raman), in her picturesque home in Nagercoil. The conversation proceeds quite well in the beginning, until it hits an unexpected snag -- Venu was hospitalised for extreme stress during his school years; he still stammers as the result of the strain, and when he's unexpectedly put into stressful situations. Ranjitha, unimpressed with the story and wary of his behavior, rejects him.

A rather charming story unfolds now, in the form of Nedumaran (Pasupathi), a blind radio jockey, whose mission is to inspire people and inspire he does, as he outlines his own emotional love story with Thamizhisai (Gajala), whose steadfast love made him believe in himself. Nedumaran's zest for life and obviously joyous marriage inspires Venu, who continues on his hunt.

Dancer in the Dark is a Danish musical drama film released in 2000. It was directed by Lars von Trier and stars Icelandic singer Björk, Catherine Deneuve, David Morse, Vladica Kostic, Cara Seymour and Peter Stormare. The soundtrack for the film, released as the album Selmasongs, was written mainly by Björk, but a number of songs featured contributions from Mark Bell and the lyrics were by Lars Von Trier and Sjón. Three songs from Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music were also used in the film.

What no one in Selma's life knows is that she has a hereditary degenerative disease which is gradually causing her to go blind. She has been saving up every penny that she makes (in a tin can in her kitchen) to pay for an operation which will prevent her young son from suffering the same fate.

The Men is a 1950 film directed by Fred Zinnemann. It tells the story of a World War II lieutenant, who is seriously injured in combat, and the struggles he faces as he attempts to re-enter society. It stars Marlon Brando, Teresa Wright, and Everett Sloane. The movie was written by Carl Foreman who had previously scripted Champion and Home of the Brave.

Although not a commercial success, this film was notable for being Marlon Brando’s film debut.

Brando appears at the start of the film as a young infantry lieutenant leading his platoon through an embattled European town. He advances into an open square and a shot rings out. He is hit in the lower back and in an instant a robust young man is made paraplegic for the rest of his life. In the hospital he is a sullen and resentful patient and in feeling sorry for himself he finds no sympathy from his fellow paraplegics.

At The End of the Day, The Sue Rodriguez

As an avid movie watcher, few shows manage to move me closer to tears than this, and this is from a guy in his mid-twenties. The characterization was intense, and the movie moves slowly at times, but never fails to show you, in words or the feelings portrayed, what goes on in Sue's mind as she ponders her decisions. The feelings she has and the reasons she gives her family and friends around her for the decision she made shows how much she must have struggled before she came to it. On one hand, she doesn't want to leave her family, especially her son (brilliantly portrayed by Miko Hughes), alone; but on the other hand she wants to spare them the agony of caring for her as her illness progresses, when she will lose every sense of control in her life. The poignant moment was when her son learns of her decision to end her own life, when he reminds her tearfully of her earlier promise that she'd fight the illness to the end without giving up. From then comes a long period of intense media attention, mostly unwanted, and gross misunderstanding and manipulation by people she trusted, before her son finally accepts and respects her decision.

This is one movie which might just make you change your mind about euthanasia.

Dear Frankie is a 2004 British drama film directed by Shona Auerbach. The screenplay by Andrea Gibb focuses on a young single mother whose love for her son prompts her to perpetuate a deception designed to protect him from the truth about his father.

Lizzie Morrison, her opinionated, chain-smoking mother Nell, and nine-year-old deaf son Frankie frequently move to keep one step ahead of her abusive ex-husband and his family. Newly relocated in the Scottish seaside town of Greenock, she accepts a job at the local fish and chips shop owned by Marie and enrolls the boy in school.

Through a Glasgow post office box, Frankie maintains a regular correspondence with someone he believes to be his father, who allegedly is a merchant seaman working on the HMS Accra. In reality, the letters he receives are written by his mother, who prefers maintaining this charade to telling her son the reason she fled her marriage.

Shine is a 1996 Australian film based on the life of pianist David Helfgott, who suffered a mental breakdown and spent years in institutions. It stars Geoffrey Rush, Lynn Redgrave, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Noah Taylor, John Gielgud, Googie Withers, Justin Braine, Sonia Todd, Chris Haywood, and Alex Rafalowicz. The screenplay was written by Jan Sardi, and Scott Hicks directed the film. The degree to which the film's plot reflects the true story of Helfgott's life is disputed (see below). The film made its US premiere at the Hawaii International Film Festival.

As the film opens, a man (Geoffrey Rush) wanders through a heavy rainstorm finding his way into a restaurant. The restaurant's owner tries to determine if he needs help. Despite his manic mode of speech being difficult to understand, she learns that his name is David Helfgott and that he is staying at a local hostel. She returns him to the hostel and despite his attempts to engage her with his musical knowledge and ownership of various musical scores, she leaves.

We flashback to David's childhood, where David is competing in a local music competition. Helfgott has been taught to play by his father, Peter (played by Armin Mueller-Stahl), a man obsessed with winning who has no tolerance for failure or disobedience. David is noticed by Mr. Rosen, a local pianist who, after an initial conflict with Peter, takes over David's musical instruction.

Vo Imya Zhizni (1947)' In the Name of Life,' Russian Film
Apparently young doctors in Russia — or in Russian movie studios—are confronted with much the same dilemmas as are their opposite numbers in Hollywood. And except that the young Russian doctors aren't as pretty as are the Hollywood types (especially the several Dr. Kildares), they behave in very much the same way. That is the reassuring evidence of the Soviet-made film, "In the Name of Life," a story of love versus science (or vice versa), which came to the Stanley on Saturday.

In this rather spotty little picture, three eager young medicos set out to perfect a technique for healing lesions of the nerves. After a year of research and disappointments (lightened only by occasional cut-ups), one of them grabs an opportunity to take off for a convention in the United States, thus walking out on his companions but contributing to internationalism thereby. A year or two later, the second fellow—after a human operation has failed—lists to his wife's importunities and quits (he being a softie, anyhow). But the third and most rugged of the doctors persists in the search, despite his love for an equally careerist young actress, and eventually perfects a new technique. Naturally, he proves it by operating on a crippled child.

Jack is a 1996 comedy-drama film starring Robin Williams, Diane Lane, Brian Kerwin, Jennifer Lopez, Fran Drescher, and Bill Cosby, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Williams plays the role of Jack Powell, a boy who ages four times faster than normal as a result of a disease similar to progeria.

The movie begins during a Halloween party with Karen Powell (Diane Lane) going into labor, and being rushed to the hospital. Although the delivery is successful, the baby premature, born after only ten weeks of pregnancy, is diagnosed with an exaggerated form of Werner syndrome, an aging disease.

Lifestyles of the Poor and Unknown
People with mild mental retardation in some ways suffer more than those who are more impaired - they stand on the cusp of "normal," aware that they don't quite "make the cut." Lifestyles of the Poor and Unknown, a video documentary, is an intimate look inside this world.

Marni and Kris Jamieson - the filmmaker's sister and brother-in-law—are a married, developmentally disabled couple living and working in New York City. They tell their story from their own sometimes irreverent perspectives—avoiding the saccharine, condescending feel of so many documentaries about the mentally handicapped. Narration (other than by Kris or Marni) is deliberately absent in this gritty-textured tale.

Avatar Movie Review

Movie: Avatar — Director: James Cameron

the story of Avatar begins with an ex-marine Jake Sully, who is given a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to a distant planet called Pandora, in hopes of carrying out his deceased twin brother's military mission. Paralysed from the waist down, Sully is determined to fulfil the task of deceitfully befriending the indigenous people or Na'vi in hopes of gaining secret and useful information.

Through the physical bodies or Avatars the human scientists have created, Sully, as well as his military and scientist colleagues are able to enter the realistic world that is Pandora without ever leaving the confines of their military base camp. Built from the grafting of genetic and molecular structures of the Na'vi and humans, these Avatars are able to breathe the toxic air on Pandora, communicate effectively, move as efficiently as the natives, as well as transmit informtion to the humans.
