Blind Student gets sex pest clerk arrested
Angry visually impaired students of Worli training institute beat up the 48 year old employee, hand him over to the police after their 18 year old classmate complains of sexual abuse
Visually impaired students of Narsingrao Shivajirao Dharamsi (NSD) Industrial Home, a training institue for the blind in Worli, Mumbai, ransacked the institute and got one of the employees arrested for sexually assaulting an 18 year old student.
The victim an orphan from West Bengal, who was assualted on Aug 4, fell ill when his assailant a clerk, told him that he would visit him again. The terrified boy finally decided to speak about it to his friends from the institute.
On Thursday the angry friends confronted the clerk, Beni Thomas Vazz, 48, and handed him over to the police who booked him on sodomy charges.
The victim had recently joined the residential institute that accomodates 65 visually impaired students who are imparted a four year training in weaving and carpentry to provide them an opportunity at self employment
The victim said on August 4, Vazz came to my room and said he would stay with me as it was raining heavily and he could not go back home to Santacruz. But in the night he sexually assaulted me and threatened to throw me out of the institute if I complained about the incident.
According to the victim on August 7, Vaaz told him that he would come to his room again one of these days. "I fell ill just thinking about it. I had not discussed the incident with anyone as I feared I would be thrown out. But when he said he would repeat the act, I broke down and told my friends" the victim said
"We were shocked and decided we must do something about it. So on Thursday morning, we confronted Vaaz. He tried to escape but we caught hold of him" said Bapu a student.
Another student Nishikant said"We thought it could happen to our classmates, it could happen to anyone of us, so we decided to act immediately".

When we went there we dound that the students were angry because of a sodomy incident. We immediately arrested Vaaz, He had now been remanded in judicial custody

Yes, there are special legal cells for people with disabilties in our country.
But this moment we need not approach them as the local police has already taken the necessary action on this.Only when the fail to do something should we make use of the legal cells for people with disabilities.
Thankfully the need does'nt arise here.
Also someone crictisied me for posting this information here - but I have done something worth while .
1. I have posted it under the name and shame coloumn.
2. I have done it to praise the students for their alertness and bravery.
2. It could sound as a warning signal for trouble makers
4. It will encourage and motivate other people with disabilities to take the right kind of action in case they too face similar problems in the near future.
Frankly speaking if I was wrong to post this here - The moderators themselves would have deleted the topic.

May I ask what their objection was?
As far as I see it, having been published in a national newspaper, the information is in public domain anyway. Moreover, on a personal level I feel the institute definately needs to be named & shamed for their security lapses & allowing this to happen in the first place.

Someone whom I dont know but I believe got my yahoo email id from another forum send an IM to me that I should not have posted this topic as it would let down the visually impaired and instead of raising mans spirit and making him cheerful, i have only thought of posting some sad news.whcih he felt was not appropriate. But no issues with that - life is not a bed of roses alone its a mixture of roses and thorns , so we cannot always expect good news, but such news was published in a leading daily and I just posted it here thats all.

Hello,
It's learnt from sources that Disability India network website having a OLAC which sends legal advices to people with disabilities and to my experience the work done by them is very good. Those who solve their grievances from these legal aid cell can post their grievances at OLAC column of disabilityindia.org and Mrs.Anuroopa Giliyal, Programme Director, OLAC will attend to all the indiscriminations faced by disabled peoples. And we do not bother to face fee for the first instances, as fees are nominal and was free for economical backwardness peoples.
Hope to post the grievances at OLAC to come across the indiscriminations that have we faced by proudsters/bureacratics etc.
