Hello, at the outset, I would like to seek the forgiveness from all of you, since I am not able to contribute much to the Forum, though I would love to. I hardly get any time, the job and my other activities like attending Bhajans, and hydro therapy etc. takes maximum of my time. But I do read all the topics coming up in the forum.
With my experience, I would like to advice everyone not to give up, and please dont wait for someone to come and help, self help is the best help. If you want a job, or wanting to start a business or whatever, contact the right person directly and the same may not materialise at the first attempt, you have to keep on trying! Could you believe, that I had to visit Vikas Sadan more than 30 times before they allotted me a flat at Dwaraka. I met the Urban Development Minister during the public darshans, and went upto the President for the same. What I am trying to tell you is that things wont happen that quickly, we have to be patient!
Further, the other day, I was reading about the old age and the fear being old with the disability! Well, in the life cycle, one has to pass all the stages & ages! And Polio being a progressive disease, the condition deteriorates to such an extent that the disability percentage also gets increased. My disability percentage was 50% 10 years back, now it is 80% due to frequent falls, fractures and of course age! You know what Sai Baba says, ' WHY FEAR, WHEN I AM HERE', so pl. have faith and do your regular prayers and pranayam which would help us to survive all the hardships we face in day to day life. The breathing exercises really do the magic, in maintaining the positive outlook and good health. Due to the disability, most of our movements are restricted and hardly we can do any exercises. So, breathing exercises is the best thing to do. And do move whaterver limbs you can. And maintain regular timings for your prayers and pranayam. Displine is very important. And in whatever way, you could, keep yourself occupied all the time. May be, somebody may start a Home for the Aged disabled in the coming years, then we all can stay there together, right? Dont lose Hope and keep the Drive on! All the very best and take care,

Hello Vijaylaxmi,
Its nice to read your post. but then I still wish you not to be bogged down with work alone and log in only when time permits. For partcipating in forums like these you need to find out the time, otherwise you will never get time. From my personal experience this is the best forum we have had so far. its a very good platform, but then its beauty can be enhanced and enriched only by members like you and me and not to forget the moderators too. (Moderators are you paying attention ....................................
Last weekend was very bad, not a single member turned up to post anything - I think this is the first time I witnessed last weekend that not a single member except me had logged in.
Yes you are right we need to be patient at all levels, but then in the meantime we should not forget to lose that fighting spirit, I have fought and fought and lost the same time but won many times too. After all, tought times dont last but tough people do.
But then coming to your topic about progressive disorders, yes its true especailly in case of disabilities involving nerves like polio, sensory neural deafness etc, but then I just want to know whether there is no medication apart from exercises that will help us retain our original strength. Along with physiotherapy , I think Ayurvedic massages are a wonderful way to keep the muscles and nerves flexible and supple. but then that all comes at a cost.
