If you asked any Kolkata resident name one pride of Kolkata, a few years ago, just before Delhi Metro started its operation, in lions share, People replied it is Kolkata Metro Railway. But I feel it is also Kolkata’s own shame.
Why? Because in a city like Kolkata, where transportation is a major problem, metro railway might be a solution for the disabled persons. But unfortunately, out of fifteen underground stations, none of them has any lift or ramps for the wheelchair accessible people. Two End Station, Tollygaunge and Dumdum, on ground, the situation is the same, the subway.
There are escalators in the stations, but there is no indication in which way we can found it… so for non-regular passengers, it is not possible to know where it is located. On the other hands, in off peak hours, the Escalators found stop working.
The electronic entry of the checking is unsuitable for crutch users…the narrow entry. And there is no travel concession for the disabled persons also.
There is no indication in the platform where the reserved seat for the disabled.
I request the forum members to raise on this issue

Dear Sir,
I used to travel by metro daily between tollygunj and maidan when I as not disabled. First of all I have not seen a seriosly disabled person or any person with wheelchair. There is no chais avialable at Tolly stations. Barring metro , que is the normal system for boarding, In metro rush into to occupy seat. The train stops at stations for a few seconds only. It is impossible for getting out in rush in Rabindra Sadan to Esplanade Stations. Even after getting down there is no way to walk if we have cross the station if wqe have to goto the other exit. There are hardly a set of eight chairs at each station. If I am tired I used to sit in the Marble floor or stairs. There are so many exits at esplnade and park street stations. As a whole metro is not meant for Disabled people. people demand a fast communication system. unfortunately we cant. KI Korbo Dada,Bolon

you are so right.
I lived in kolkota for 4 years & used metro all the time but I always struggled to locate the escalators ..... somehow they have managed to hide them really well.

Hai Jitendra,
Nice to learn that you are actively participating in disabilitity related issues of many such people. I can understand from your posting that you are following this forum and we will surely fight to get our rights established.
Pl try to post in English so that non-hindi members like me {to some extent I can understand} can follow your postings.
It seems that I am the only person who is raising this issue to post the matters in english and not in hindi. Am I hurting the feelings of other members?? If so pl forgive me
Thanks and Regards
Srividyaa

I agree with Srividya as I dont know Hindi well. I think English should be the only medium to post, and if anyone wish to post in Hindi, he or she should tarnlate it so that everyone can understand.
