The Saudi-Bahraini Institute for the Blind (SBIB) has urged the government to print currency notes with Braille markings so that the visually-challenged can identify the currency and denominations.
The SBIB suggestion has found immediate response from lawmakers with the Al Wefaq and Al Asala blocs backing the move.
The director of the institute in Isa Town, Abdulwahed Mohammed, told the Tribune: “We have requested the authorities to print notes with braille characters on the top corner of the notes to facilitate identification. We had raised this issue in the past and are hoping it will be considered now.”
Jasim Husain, an Al Wefaq MP, welcoming the suggestion, said: “This is something positive that will help the visually-challenged. This will also help them in integrating with the society. The bloc will definitely push for it to be implemented.”
The First Deputy Speaker in Parliament, Ghanim Al Buainin said: “The visually-challenged should be treated on par with others, and I fully back this suggestion. The blind will not be cheated and nobody can take advantage of his or her disability.”
Hana Al Jamri, a visually-challenged person regular at the institute, said: “If the government approves the proposal it will benefit us. I can identify the coins but it’s very difficult to identify the paper currency. This forces us to keep money of different denominations in different pockets.”

Hello Manoj,
Its nice to see the Saudi govt. being proactive about introducing braille identification on papernotes.
Apparently diffentiating between papernotes is a huge problem is America as all dollar bills are the same size !!!! But it seems that (finally after awakening to this issue last month) the US government is trying to come up with a solution.
