CII has taken up the theme for the current year as ‘Building People, Building India’.
Excerpt from speech delivered yesterday by Finance Minister - Mr. P. Chidambaram - talking on the ‘Inclusive Growth – An Imperative for 21st Century India’, at a CII forum:-
- ‘Sarva Siksha Abhiyan’ yields 100% enrolment in Kerala and 94% in Tamil Nadu, but unfortunately there is lack of school infrastructure and absenteeism of teachers that marks the failure of the project. 30% of the teachers don’t attend the schools and this is a major concern for the project, said the minister. He said that the incapacity of the state governments and the lack of administrative capability of the concerned authorities are the main reason of corruption and hindrance to growth.
- Government is committed to support 100,000 disabled people and is willing to take responsibility of EPF of a disabled employee of a company for three years, said Mr. Chidambaram. He said that industry should take interest in training and skill development of the disabled people. The minister said that government has sanctioned Rs.2.5 crore to each ITI for skill development and will go by tripartite agreement with industry and state government to create a skill based and job oriented courses at ITI.
