Sicko is a 2007 documentary film by American film maker Michael Moore. The film investigates the American health care system, focusing on its health insurance and pharmaceutical industry. The film compares the for-profit, non-universal U.S. system with the non-profit universal health care systems of Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Cuba.

Sicko opened to positive reviews, but also generated criticism and controversy. Some policy specialists have praised the film while others have criticized the film for its positive portrayal of the publicly funded health systems of Canada, the United Kingdom and Cuba, and for its negative portrayal of the health care system in the United States.

Duet for One (1986) is a film based on an award-winning British play by Tom Kempinski about a world-famous concert violinist named Stephanie Anderson who is suddenly struck with multiple sclerosis. It is set in London and directed by Andrei Konchalovsky. The story is loosely based on the life of cellist Jacqueline du Pré, who was diagnosed with MS, and her husband, conductor Daniel Barenboim.

Sokhout - The Silence (1998)
From one of Iran's most celebrated filmmakers, comes The Silence, a hypnotic symphony of visual and aural rhythms. The Silence follows the life of Khorshid, a blind, 10-year old boy who experiences the w orld through sound. Living with his mother in a small village in Tajikistan, Khorshid earns money turning musical instruments. Nadereh, the beautiful young protégée of the instrument maker for whom Khorshid works, acts as his eyes, fetching him every day at the bus stop and leading him through the streets to his destination. Sometimes on the way, a conversation or melody attracts Khorshid's attention and he loses himself in the compelling harmonies of the city and everyday life. About to lose his job and his home, Khorshid creates a world where he can be happy; where hypnotic sounds and the music of the world shows him how to experience life.

Any movie about a cerebral palsy victim who learns to pilot a plane, hang-glide and win the heart of a woman -- all in 90 minutes' playing time -- would seem to be asking for ridicule. And though the outlines of "Cloud Cuckoo Land" recycle most of TV's lamentable if-he-can-do-it-so-can-you formula, director-co-writer Matt Dickinson makes sure his widescreen pic is made of sterner stuff, with easy sentiments mostly drained away. This adventure tale is prime for theatrical distribs able to nurture unique films; vid and small-screen route would rob the work of much of its visual impact.

Cactus
Colo (Isabelle Huppert) has come to Australia from France to stay with family friends, after the failure of her marriage. Tom (Norman Kaye) and his wife Beatrice (Monica Maughan) own a big house with a beautiful garden in the foothills outside Melbourne. Driving back from sightseeing with Tom, Colo crashes his car. She loses the sight in her left eye and that threatens the vision in her right eye. The specialist advises that the left eye must be removed, or she could go completely blind.

Autism: The Musical
This film blends everything you ever could imagine about a documentary feature. It makes you laugh one second and cry the next. As serious as the subject matter is, it leaves you feeling inspired and wanting to make a difference.

The approach to autism is comprehensive and educates you about its challenges in numerous ways. I couldn't possibly recommend this movie at a higher level. It's simply awesome.

Fighting for Life is a powerful, sobering and emotional feature documentary portrait of American military medicine interweaving three stories:

Military doctors, nurses and medics, working with skill, compassion and dedication amidst the vortex of the Iraq War.
Wounded soldiers and marines reacting with courage, dignity and determination to survive and to heal.
Students at USU, the “West Point” of military medicine, on their journey toward becoming career military physicians.
The film follows 21 year-old Army Specialist Crystal Davis, from Iraq to Germany to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC, as she fights to recover and “bounce back” from the loss of a leg.

The filmmakers had extraordinary access to combat support hospitals in Iraq, medevac flights with wounded soldiers, and military hospitals in Germany and the United States.

Sometimes dismissed as a derivation of Samuel Goldwyn's The Best Years of Our Lives, RKO Radio's superb Till the End of Time was actually based on Niven Busch's novel They Dream of Home, and was completed and released several months before the Goldwyn film. The story concentrates on three ex-marines: Cliff Harper (Guy Madison), Bill Tabeshaw (Robert Mitchum) and Perry Kincheloe (Bill Williams). Harper falls in love with emotionally distraught war widow Pat Ruscomb (Dorothy McGuire); Tabeshaw endures one disappointment after another as he tries to buy his own ranch; and Kincheloe, rendered legless by the war, intends to spend the rest of his life wallowing in self-pity. All three men find a new lease on life when they engage in a cathartic barroom brawl against a bigoted group of self-styled patriots led by hate-spouting Ray Teal (forever typecast as rabid racists during the postwar years).

My Flesh and Blood is a 2003 documentary film by Jonathan Karsh chronicling a year in the life of the Tom family. The Tom family is notable as the mother, Susan, adopted eleven children, most of whom had serious disabilities or diseases. The film itself is notable for handling the sensitive subject matter in an unsentimental way that is more uplifting than one might expect. It was nominated for and won several awards, including the Audience Award and the Director's Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
